Yarm Civic Society

Yarm Civic Society was set up in November 1962 with the aim of stimulating public interest in the town and its history, as well as encouraging the preservation and development of public amenities and areas of historic interest. The Society’s main objective is to promote high standards of planning and architecture in the conservation area.

The committee meet once a month in Yarm Town Hall but it's not all work! We also have an active social committee who plan a packed calendar of events for the year. These will include visits to historic houses / places of interest, theatre and concert visits, talks and visits to other Civic / Historic Societies. Yarm Civic Society members often act as volunteer guides taking interested parties on a “Town Walk” pointing out the many places of interest within the town of Yarm. The Society has also published booklets, these include Yarm and the First Railway, The Inns of Yarm and Yarns of Yarm, some of which are still available.

Our President is Lord Crathorne and our current Chairman for 2010, is Mr Keith Marlow and the number of members is approximately 90.
