Yarm’s first Gala took place in the 1920’s and the town has a great long history dating back to the 12th century, warranting a mention in the Domesday Book.

The town became the first iconic Port on the River Tees and was instrumental in shipping and in Medieval times was viewed as the rivers most vital port.

Deputy Mayor Paul Smith who is organising the event says ‘I have been involved in organising the last 3 Gala’s and its all made worth while when you see families enjoying the attractions the Gala has to offer, in the gloomy times of recession it gives families a great opportunity to enjoy themselves and I am proud to be part of a great team who deliver it.

The event will take place from 10:00am

There will be live music from 11:00am

Racing on the river will take place throughout the day kicking of at 9:30am for the junior competition then at 11:00am for the adults with a short break around 12:30pm to allow for the Antique steam boat parade.
